Migration

Migration is a fundamental part of human behaviour. Climate change, environmental pollution, natural disasters, violent conflicts, economic insecurity are some of the reasons why people migrate. While inequalities and power structures exacerbate the reasons to leave one’s home, the lines between forced and chosen migration are rarely clear.

Our social democratic vision for the future is a world in which migration is a free choice and mobility is based on the values of human rights and global solidarity. Based on the Global Compacts on Migration and on Refugees, and the Sustainable Development Goals and through close collaboration with the UN Network on Migration, OHCHR, the Treaty Body System, Special Rapporteurs, and civil society we work to strengthen the promotion and protection of human rights of all migrants.

Portraits of a Feminist Energy Transition | Video Series Part 2 - Women in the Energy Transition in Yemen

Although women play a fundamental role in the management and use of energy resources in households and their communities, they face common challenges related to systematic discrimination, energy poverty and lack of representation in the development of the new energy renewable sector. We cannot accelerate the course towards sustainable energy systems without putting at the center the voices of women and communities that have historically lagged behind decision-making spaces.

Through the stories and experiences of women we can reduce the risks of the energy transition and catalyze the transformative potential of renewable energy to advance gender equality and build a sustainable, low-carbon future.

The series "Portraits of a feminist energy transition", makes visible the stories of activists and human rights defenders who fight for a just energy transition that protects the environment, promotes gender equality and provides safe, affordable and sustainable access to energetic resources. We hereby present to you the second video of the series undertaken by our partner, the Global Initiative for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (GI-ESCR) together with SDF Yemen and the support of FES-Geneva. It tells the story of an empowered group of women in Yemen that are actively participating in providing sustainable energy solutions to their communities, while creating income earning opportunities in the face of a humanitarian crisis.
