Towards Guiding Principles on Worker Rights and Toxics

This expert meeting served to assist the drafting of the next report by the Special Rapporteur, Baskut Tuncak, to the Human Rights Council (to be presented in September) and further development of principles regarding the rights of workers and toxic exposures.

The study will outline some recurrent concerns regarding the promotion and protection of human rights of workers and will propose a set of recommendations for integrating human rights into ongoing efforts at the labour, environment and public health fora.

Global supply chains for example are often implicated for both failing to protect workers from toxic exposures and refusing to provide an effective remedy for individuals harmed. The Special Rapporteur posted a public call for submissions (see the call here).
