Rights at Work – Rights for Women. Economic Empowerment Through Decent Working Conditions

Women and girls remain overrepresented in the informal economy, labour-intensive and precarious work, and in low-paid jobs.

A more transformative approach is required to infuse human rights with women’s perspective to combine economics with social and human development. Economic emancipation of women through participation in the formal economy and decent conditions of work can only be achieved by a concerted effort of the human rights, labour, trade and development sectors. This side event analysed how existing human and labour rights standards and trade frameworks can respectively advance fair working conditions for women and propose a holistic approach to ensuring rights at work for all women workers.
