Digital Trade in Africa: Implications for Inclusion and Industrialization

Whilst the digital economy is being felt across the continent, there exists a substantial digital divide between African countries and the rest of the world. This presents challenges for the African continent that will need to be addressed in a way that is consistent with inclusion, transparency, people-centred governance and the attainment of human rights.

The side event will discuss how Africa’s digital transformation can be used as a tool for inclusive industrialization through trade, drawing on ECA’s collaborative work with the AFREXIMBANK and UNCTAD under the Bank’s 2019 African Trade Report (ATR) on “Digital Transformation for Intra-Regional Trade and Industrialization in Africa” and ECA’s collaborative publication with OHCHR and FES on “Digital Trade in Africa: Implications for Inclusion and Human Rights”.  Speakers will be
