This year’s edition unpacked the landmark advisory opinions on climate change by the International Tribunal of the Law of the Sea, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, and the International Court of Justice, and discussed the role of Geneva-based human rights institutions in elevating and building on these rulings. It was organized by the Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL), the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the Permanent Missions of the Republic of the Marshall Islands and Vanuatu, the Geneva Environment Network, Earthjustice, and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) Geneva Office, with the support of the Government of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
