Migration

Migration is a fundamental part of human behaviour. Climate change, environmental pollution, natural disasters, violent conflicts, economic insecurity are some of the reasons why people migrate. While inequalities and power structures exacerbate the reasons to leave one’s home, the lines between forced and chosen migration are rarely clear.

Our social democratic vision for the future is a world in which migration is a free choice and mobility is based on the values of human rights and global solidarity. Based on the Global Compacts on Migration and on Refugees, and the Sustainable Development Goals and through close collaboration with the UN Network on Migration, OHCHR, the Treaty Body System, Special Rapporteurs, and civil society we work to strengthen the promotion and protection of human rights of all migrants.

The Mont Blanc Scenarios: Journey into the Future of Trade

Session during the WTO Public Forum

Any imagination, any predictability about the future is difficult, is divergent, is diverse. To build a future resilient and robust to external and internal shocks and respondent to the needs of all countries is a huge challenge.

We invited our participants to embark on a new journey to envision the future of trade, which was be short and pleasant. The future of the international trading system was at the heart of this journey. The aim of this journey was to present and discuss scenarios on the future of the international trading architecture which have been developed by a group of experts during the first half of 2022 who had no illusions about the challenges ahead. Finding satisfactory scenarios is not easy to achieve. But find them we must. This session was not be a classic panel discussion. Curious? Read the newspaper from the year 2032!
